Die Familie der echten Motten umfaßt kleine Falter mit sehr schmalen, oft  gefransten, einfarbigen oder gezeichneten Flügeln. Die Raupen leben meist in  köcherartigen Gespinströhren. Zu den echten Motten gehören z.B. die Kornmotte, Tapetenmotte, Pelzmotte, Kleidermotte und Reisemotte. Hierbei  unterscheidet sich jedoch die Reisemotte in ihren Fress- und Trinkgewohnheiten  sowie durch ihren weltweiten Aktionsradius.
